Publication History
The Claw was created by Jack Cole and first appeared in Silver Streak Comics #1, published by Lev Gleason Publications in December 1939.
In the comics, The Claw is a supervillain, a gigantic, demonic figure hailing from an unspecified Asian country. He was depicted as having a vast range of powers, including shape-shifting, size manipulation, and the ability to shoot energy blasts. The Claw often battled heroes like the original Daredevil.
Lev Gleason Publications was known for its crime and superhero comics during the 1940s. The Claw was one of their most recognizable characters, appearing in various series, including Silver Streak Comics and Daredevil Comics.
The ancient meteor that had broken off from the planet Zylmarx was no ordinary space debris. It concealed a malevolent intelligence known as The Claw, which had been imprisoned within the rock for countless millennia. Biding its time, The Claw longed for the day it would be set free.
When the meteor crash-landed on Earth, The Claw knew its opportunity had come. Disappointed to find only animals and insects nearby, it decided to exploit them to further its sinister plans. For four long years, it lay hidden in the wilderness, extending its tendrils of influence over the creatures, bending their wills to its own dark desires.
As The Claw prepared to unleash its full power, it began to stretch out its malevolent appendages. Panic-stricken, the animals around it sensed the growing threat, but escape was impossible. The Claw released waves of dark energy, corrupting plants, animals, and even reaching into the minds of unsuspecting humans. Its ultimate goal: seizing power and dominating the world.
Reports of the twisted plant and animal life, as well as the strange energy readings, began to spread. Authorities were baffled, and scientists around the world scrambled to find answers to these mysterious occurrences. Little did they know that The Claw, a villainous force unlike any other, was at the heart of it all.
Unbeknownst to them, The Claw continued to grow in power and extend its reach, wreaking havoc across the land. It sensed the world’s growing fear and despair, feeding off of it and becoming even more formidable. As its evil influence spread unchecked, the stage was set for a hero to rise and challenge The Claw’s malevolent reign.
