Son of the Gods is a character from the Golden Age of Comics. His real identity is Doctor John Thesson. The character was created by George Mandel and made his first appearance in Exciting Comics #2, published by Nedor Comics in May 1940.
Doctor John Thesson, the Son of the Gods, is a superhero who gains his powers from ancient Egyptian gods. He possesses a variety of superhuman abilities, including enhanced strength, flight, and the ability to generate and control electricity. Thesson is also a skilled detective and a brilliant scientist.
During the Golden Age, the Son of the Gods appeared in various issues of Exciting Comics. The series ran for 68 issues, from 1940 to 1949.
Keoni Thesson was a Hawaiian native, living a humble life on the picturesque island of Oahu. His days were spent working as a lifeguard, vigilantly watching over the crystal-clear waters, while his evenings were dedicated to riding the magnificent waves that graced the shores of Waikiki. Though his life seemed ordinary, Keoni always sensed an inexplicable connection to the ocean, as if there was a hidden depth to his existence that he had yet to discover.
Tragedy struck when Keoni received the heart-wrenching news that his mother, his only living family member, had passed away. The overwhelming grief left him reeling, searching for a way to honor her memory and cope with the profound loss. As he sought solace in the ocean, he made a daring decision: to ride the biggest wave ever recorded as a tribute to the woman who had raised him.
With determination fueling his every stroke, Keoni paddled out into the vast expanse of the sea. Before long, a colossal wave emerged on the horizon, dwarfing anything he had ever encountered. Instinctively, Keoni knew that this was the once-in-a-lifetime wave he had been seeking. He summoned all his strength and courage, then caught the wave just as it began to break.
As the mammoth wave carried him, it pulled Keoni deep beneath the ocean’s surface. He descended into the depths, where a radiant light eventually greeted him. Drawn to the illumination, he found himself in a breathtaking underwater cavern. It was there that he encountered Kanaloa, the ancient Hawaiian god of the sea.
Kanaloa revealed to Keoni that he was his father and that Keoni had been chosen to serve as the guardian of the ocean. Gifting Keoni a mystical ring imbued with divine power, Kanaloa granted his son the ability to tap into his godlike strength and protect the ocean and its inhabitants from harm.
Embracing his newfound purpose, Keoni assumed the mantle of ‘Son of the Gods’. Though the loss of his mother had shattered his world, the discovery of his true heritage and destiny gave Keoni a renewed sense of purpose. In embracing his role as the guardian of the ocean, he not only honored his mother’s memory but also forged a deeper connection with the mysterious, powerful world that had always called to him.
