Publication History
Magno is a Golden Age comic book character who first appeared in Super-Mystery Comics #1, published in July 1940 by Ace Periodicals. The character was created by writer and artist Paul Chadwick.
Magno is a superhero with the power of magnetism, which allows him to attract and repel metal objects, as well as fly and generate magnetic force fields. He gains his magnetic abilities after being struck by a bolt of lightning while holding a rare magnetic stone. His real name is Tom Dalton, and he works as a railroad engineer when not fighting crime as Magno.
Super-Mystery Comics was an anthology series that featured a variety of adventure, mystery, and superhero stories. Magno was one of the many characters that appeared in the series, sharing the pages with other heroes like Vulcan, The Raven, and The Unknown Soldier.
Magno’s adventures continued in several issues of Super-Mystery Comics throughout the early 1940s. The character’s publication history highlights the unique and creative stories that emerged during the Golden Age of comic books.

As Magno grew older, his bipolar disorder became more severe, and his emotions more unpredictable. His episodes grew more frequent, making it increasingly difficult for him to lead a normal life.
One day, Magno saw his sister being harassed by a group of local bullies. Overwhelmed with rage and a fierce desire to protect her, Magno felt something within him snap. His anger exploded, and with it, his latent powers revealed themselves for the first time.
Metallic objects in the surrounding area reacted to his emotional state, repelling people as his anger reached its peak. The bullies fled in terror, but the damage was done. The entire town had witnessed Magno’s outburst and the extraordinary powers he had unleashed.
Recognizing that his emotional instability and newfound powers could pose a danger to those he cared for, Magno made the heart-wrenching decision to go on the run. He knew he couldn’t risk hurting Anika or anyone else. His journey became a quest for understanding and control, to find a way to master both his powers and his bipolar disorder.
