The Eye first appeared in Keen Detective Funnies vol. 2 #12, published in December 1939 by Centaur Publications. The character was created by writer and artist Frank Thomas.
The Eye is a mysterious, disembodied cosmic entity that possesses vast knowledge and supernatural powers, which it uses to fight evil and uphold justice. The Eye has no physical form but can manifest as a giant, floating eye. It can communicate telepathically, manipulate matter, and control energy, among other powers.
Keen Detective Funnies was an anthology series that featured a variety of detective, adventure, and superhero stories. The Eye was one of the many characters that appeared in the series, sharing the pages with other heroes like Dan Hastings, Speed Centaur, and Fantom of the Fair.
The publication history of The Eye spans several issues of Keen Detective Funnies during the late 1930s and early 1940s. The character later appeared in other Centaur titles such as Amazing Mystery Funnies and Detective Eye.

Focusing its attention on Earth, The Eye used its ability to observe across time and space, collecting information inaccessible to humans. It wielded its power to appear and vanish at will, always remaining concealed while providing assistance. The Eye observed the world, taking note of all significant occurrences and figures vital to the cosmic event.
As The Eye gathered the necessary information, it realized that the key to the cosmic event was not just a physical object but also a person—a human with a unique ability to harness the power required for the event. The Eye understood that this individual’s protection was of utmost importance, as their role was critical to the event’s success.
Taking on the mantle of a guardian, The Eye watched over the chosen one, ensuring their safety. It intervened in precarious situations, preventing harm from befalling the chosen one. It materialized and dematerialized at will, always remaining hidden from those it aided.
As the chosen one matured, they became aware of The Eye’s presence and grew fearful. The Eye knew it had to reveal itself and elucidate the significance of the chosen one’s role in the cosmic event. However, it also had to proceed cautiously, ensuring no harm came to the chosen one or the world.
The Eye eventually disclosed its identity to the chosen one, explaining the cosmic event and their vital role within it. Initially shocked and afraid, the chosen one, with The Eye’s support, gradually accepted their significance and agreed to participate in the event.
As the cosmic event neared, The Eye collaborated closely with the chosen one, using its powers to assemble the necessary components and prepare the chosen one for their role.
At last, the day of the event arrived, and all the elements were in place. The Eye, the chosen one, and other similar beings throughout the multiverse cooperated to activate the event. Once completed, the universe’s fate was secured, and Earth and its inhabitants were safe. The Eye’s mission had been fulfilled, and its purpose had been served.
