Publication History
Eelo was created by Alex Blum and first appeared in Fantastic Comics #5, published by Fox Features Syndicate in April 1940.
In the comics, Eelo is depicted as a villain. Unique to Eelo is his adaptation to life underwater. He has fins and webbed hands that allow him to swim at incredible speeds, and he is capable of breathing underwater, giving him significant advantages in aquatic environments.
Fox Features Syndicate was known for its superhero and crime comics during the early 1940s. However, many of their characters, including Eelo, were phased out as the publisher’s focus shifted over the years.
Eelo was once an ordinary marine biologist, dedicated to researching ocean life and preserving the delicate balance of the underwater ecosystem. A freak accident during a deep-sea expedition exposed him to a mysterious chemical that altered his DNA, transforming him into an amphibious creature. The change left him with the ability to breathe underwater and move with incredible speed and agility.
The transformation also had a profound impact on Eelo’s mind. He became obsessed with the idea of controlling the world’s oceans and reshaping them according to his will. Fueled by his newfound powers and a deep-seated resentment for humanity’s exploitation of marine life, Eelo began to devise a plan to create an amphibious army.
Eelo started by seeking out others who had experienced similar accidents and transformations. He infiltrated research facilities and underwater laboratories, using his powers to sabotage their work while recruiting the affected individuals to his cause. Together, they formed a secret society, working tirelessly to develop technology that would further enhance their abilities and facilitate their mission.
As their ranks grew, Eelo decided it was time to make their presence known. He orchestrated a series of attacks on coastal cities, using his amphibious soldiers to strike from the depths of the ocean, causing widespread panic and destruction. The world was caught off guard, unable to defend against this new and mysterious threat.
Eelo’s ambitions, however, were far from satisfied. His lust for power only grew stronger, and he demanded more daring and devastating attacks on humanity. He pushed his amphibious army to the brink, seeking to prove that no one could stand against the might of the ocean.
