Pocket Comics was an anthology series that featured a variety of superhero, adventure, and crime stories. British Agent 99 was one of the many characters that appeared in the series, sharing the pages with other heroes such as the Red Blazer, the Black Cat, and the Girl Commandos.
The publication history of British Agent 99 spanned several issues of Pocket Comics, though the series itself was relatively short-lived, running for only four issues from 1941 to 1942.
Agent-99 was the most formidable operative within the clandestine intelligence agency known only as “”The Organization.”” Renowned for his mastery of disguise, he could effortlessly alter his appearance to suit any mission’s requirements.
However, Agent-99 was a far cry from his fellow agents. His brutal methods and unwavering commitment to achieving his objectives, regardless of the consequences, distinguished him as a force to be reckoned with—equally feared by allies and adversaries.
One fateful day, Agent-99 received orders to infiltrate a high-security facility and recover a stolen piece of technology with the potential to disrupt the global power balance. Utilizing his unparalleled skills, he assumed the role of a guard, effortlessly evading the facility’s security measures.
Unexpectedly, Agent-99 encountered formidable resistance. Despite being outmanned and outgunned, he tapped into his violent instincts, ruthlessly dispatching the guards and securing the stolen technology. As he made his escape, a squad of elite soldiers pursued him relentlessly. Realizing he couldn’t outrun them, he employed his gift of disguise, seamlessly blending in as one of the soldiers.
Safely back at The Organization’s headquarters, Agent-99 delivered the technology, but the mission’s outcome was bittersweet. His propensity for violence and his ever-changing identity made him the ideal candidate for high-risk missions; however, they also rendered him a potential liability for The Organization.
After assessing the collateral damage caused by Agent-99’s latest mission, The Organization’s leadership reached a critical decision. Unwilling to risk further exposure and damage to their reputation, they decided to burn Agent-99 as an agent, effectively severing all ties with him.
The news struck Agent-99 like a bolt of lightning. He had dedicated his life to The Organization, sacrificing his identity and humanity in the process. With a mixture of shock, betrayal, and rage, he realized that he was now on his own, and the very people he had fought for had turned their backs on him.
Cast adrift, Agent-99 wandered the world, struggling to find purpose in a life no longer defined by the secret missions and ever-changing faces he had grown accustomed to. He couldn’t shake the feeling that his former colleagues were watching him, waiting for a moment of weakness to eliminate any lingering threat he might pose.
As the days turned to weeks and the weeks to months, Agent-99 found himself at a crossroads. He could either accept his fate and fade into obscurity, or use his skills and knowledge to forge a new path, one where he alone determined his destiny. The world was vast and filled with shadows, and the possibilities were endless.
